Design & build

What we actually build

Hand-written code, no page builders, no themes bought off a marketplace. Here is what that gets you, and why it matters more than it sounds.

Designed around one action

Before we draw anything we settle a single question: what is the one thing a visitor should do? Book an MOT. Enquire about a discovery call. Join the mailing list. Reserve a table.

Everything else on the page is then judged against that. A section that doesn’t move somebody closer to it either earns its place another way or comes out. This is the difference between a site that looks finished and a site that works.

Built to load in under a second

We write the HTML and CSS ourselves. There is no WordPress, no page-builder plugin stack, no 400KB of JavaScript to render a paragraph. A typical page we ship is a few tens of kilobytes and renders before a template site has finished asking a CDN for its fonts.

That matters twice over. Google measures loading, interactivity and layout stability as ranking signals, and a slow page bleeds visitors long before it bleeds rank — most people give a site about three seconds on mobile data.

Copy that sounds like you

On the Business plan and above we write the copy. That starts with a conversation about how you actually explain the job to a customer, because the phrases you already use are almost always better than anything invented for a website.

We write for the person who is deciding, not for a search engine. Then we make sure the words a search engine needs are present in the places it looks.

SEO groundwork, not an SEO retainer

Every site we build ships with the technical foundations in place, at no extra cost:

  • A unique, written title and meta description on every page — not the same sentence with the page name appended.
  • Schema.org structured data for your actual business type, so search engines and AI assistants can state your hours, services and prices with confidence.
  • A real page for each service you sell, because a bullet list on the homepage ranks for nothing.
  • Internal linking that connects those pages sensibly rather than dumping everything in the footer.
  • An automatic XML sitemap, a sane robots.txt, and canonical URLs that prevent duplicate-content confusion.
  • Google Business Profile set up or cleaned up, with your name, address and phone number identical everywhere they appear.

None of that is a growth-hacking secret. It is just done properly, once, instead of sold back to you monthly.

Accessible by default

Colour contrast that passes WCAG AA. Real focus outlines. Form fields with labels attached to them. Headings in an order that makes sense read aloud. Content that reflows when someone zooms to 200%.

Roughly one in five people in the UK has a disability of some kind. Building for them is the right thing to do, it reduces your legal exposure, and it happens to produce cleaner markup that Google finds easier to understand.

Light and dark, phone and desktop

Sites we build respect the theme the visitor has already chosen on their device, and are designed on a phone first — because that is where the majority of your traffic, and nearly all of your urgent traffic, is coming from.

Then we look after it

Launch is the start. Every plan includes UK hosting, an SSL certificate, daily backups kept for 30 days, software and security updates, uptime monitoring, and a set amount of change time each month. New prices, new photos, a new service, holiday hours — you email us and it’s done, with no quote and no invoice.

What it costs

Pay-monthly plans run from £45 a month for a five-page site up to £120 a month for a shop or membership site — design, build, hosting, support and monthly changes all included, with nothing to pay upfront.

Prefer to own it? One-off builds start at £1495.

Questions about the build

Will I be able to update it myself?

If you want to, yes — we can add an editor for the parts that change often, like a blog, a menu or news posts. Plenty of clients would rather not, which is why every plan includes change time. Email us what you need changed and it’s usually live the same day.

Why not WordPress?

WordPress is fine for some jobs, and we’ll say so when it’s the right answer. For a brochure or lead-generation site it usually means a theme, a page builder and a dozen plugins — which is slower, needs constant patching, and is the single most attacked platform on the web.

Hand-built static pages have nothing to exploit and nothing to keep updating. That is why we can include hosting and security in the monthly fee without gambling.

Can you keep our existing design?

Yes, if you like it. We can rebuild an existing look on faster foundations, or take your brand guidelines and apply them properly. We’ll be honest if we think the design itself is the reason the site isn’t converting.

Do you do eCommerce?

Yes, on the Growth plan — products, payments, shipping rules and stock. It suits smaller catalogues and brands selling a focused range. If you need a thousand SKUs and warehouse integration, we’ll tell you where to go instead.

What about analytics?

Included from the Business plan: Google Analytics and Search Console set up properly, so you can see what people search to find you and which pages actually produce enquiries. If you’d rather avoid cookie banners entirely we’ll fit a cookieless alternative instead.

Let’s build the site your trade actually needs

Tell us what you do and we’ll send you a straight answer: what your site needs, what it will cost each month, and how quickly it can be live.

No pressure, no jargon, no obligation. We usually reply the same working day.
